In a recent announcement made by the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, Turkey’s oil and natural gas production for the month of October has reached unprecedented levels. The government reported that both the monthly and daily production levels have broken records, showcasing the country’s growing energy output.
According to the official statement released by the ministry, Turkey’s natural gas production hit an impressive 234.4 million cubic meters (mcm) in October, while domestic crude oil production surged to an all-time high of 3.36 million barrels for the month. On a daily basis, the average production stood at 7.56 million cubic meters of natural gas and 108,443 barrels of crude oil. The ministry also provided detailed figures, revealing that the highest oil production for a single day was recorded on October 29 at 111,280 barrels, while natural gas production peaked on October 23 at 7.9 mcm.
One of the key contributing factors to this surge in production is the discovery of significant gas fields along the Black Sea coast and in the Gabar region of southeastern Turkey. These new findings are a result of the country’s intensified efforts in oil and gas exploration in recent years. The ministry noted that natural gas production from the Sakarya Field accounted for 84% of total gas production in October, while oil production from the Gabar region made up 46.6% of the nation’s total oil output. Specifically, natural gas production at the Sakarya Gas Field reached 6.66 mcm on October 23, and production in the Gabar region reached its peak on October 29 at 52,573 barrels.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized the government’s commitment to further developing Turkey’s oil and gas sector. He stated that the country aims to boost production through the exploration of new fields and drilling activities. With increasing energy demands, Turkey is focusing on securing new reserves and discoveries not only domestically but also internationally. Bayraktar highlighted the ongoing seismic exploration activities conducted by the research vessel Oruç Reis in Somalia as an example of Turkey’s global energy ambitions. The mission, which commenced last month, is expected to last for approximately seven months and is geared towards identifying new natural gas and oil resources.
During a welcoming ceremony for the Oruç Reis in Somalia, Bayraktar announced the signing of a new agreement between the Somali Petroleum Authority and the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) for onshore hydrocarbon exploration. This collaboration underscores Turkey’s commitment to expanding its energy footprint beyond its borders and establishing itself as a key player in the global energy market. Bayraktar reiterated the government’s goal of achieving energy independence for Turkey by leveraging its growing production capabilities and strategic partnerships.
